MASC Battle of the Books

Battle of the Books is sponsored by the North Carolina School Library Media Association for students in grades 6, 7, and 8 in public, private and home schools. It is used to motivate middle school students to read books from a wide variety of genres. Students participate in a "quiz-bowl" style tournament in late March that tests their knowledge of a list of books established by the NCSLMA's Battle of the Books committee. Last year's list of 26 books included titles such as The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne, Good Night, Mr. Tom by Michelle Magorian, and Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. For more information about the competition, you can go to the N.C. School Librarians website at
http://www.ncslma.org/BookCompetitions/bookcompetitions.htm.
The MASC team has 5 to 10 members and meets twice a month. Each team member will be expected to read most, if not all, of the year's selections. Summertime is a great time to get started on the booklist!
